AN EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW OF A NEW YORK PROGRAM! EXPERIENCE A NIGHT OF KYOGEN, THE FOUNDATION OF JAPANESE COMEDY
“The Heart of Kyogen : Lecture – Demonstration – Performance” has been designed to introduce the world to Kyogen, a Japanese theatrical form that celebrates a history of nearly 650 years. This program will be available for one night only in Shibuya, the cultural center of Tokyo, before tarveling to New York in October. If you have not experienced Kyogen, now is your chance. Young or old, new to Kyogen or a veteran, it is certain to delight everyone. The lecture will be presented in Japanese with simultaneous translation.
After giving a lecture and demonstration, the Kyogen actors will perform the play “Bonsan” which depicts a dull-witted, inexperienced thief whose passion for dwarf landscapes tempts him to steal one.
約650年の歴史を持つ日本の芸能の原点の一つ「狂言」の魅力を、世界の人に知ってもらうための企画“The Heart of Kyogen: Lecture - Demonstration -Performance ～狂言入門”。今年10月のアメリカ・ニューヨークでの開催に先駆けて、日本の最先端の文化発信地、東京・渋谷で開催します。内容は外国人にも分かりやすい入門編です。まだ狂言に触れたことのない方も、通の方も、老若男女国籍問わずお誘い合わせください！ 当日の解説は日英二カ国語で行います。
